   Lotte, ich bin dreißig geworden. Was ist in zwanzig Jahren noch von meinem Geld übrig?

   Translation

   Lotte, I've turned thirty. What will be left of my money in twenty years?

   Lotte

   Das hängt davon ab, wie du es anlegst. Wenn du es nur sparst, frisst die Inflation deine Ersparnisse.

   Translation

   That depends on how you invest it. If you just save it, inflation eats up your savings.

   Aber es gibt doch Zinsen!

   Translation

   But there's interest, isn't there!

   Lotte

   Zwei Prozent. Bei drei Prozent Inflation verlierst du trotzdem.

   Translation

   Two per cent. With three per cent inflation you still lose.

   Frida

   Und Aktien? Die schwanken ständig, das ist mir zu riskant.

   Translation

   And shares? They go up and down all the time, that's too risky for me.

   Einzelne Aktien, ja. Aber ein breiter Fonds ist langfristig sicherer, mit einer Rendite von etwa sechs Prozent im Schnitt.

   Translation

   Individual shares, yes. But a broad fund is safer in the long run, with an average return of about six per cent.

   Ich bin ja sparsam und lege jeden Monat hundert Euro auf die hohe Kante. Reicht das für die Altersvorsorge?

   Translation

   Well, I'm thrifty and put a hundred euros aside every month. Is that enough for my retirement savings?

   Lotte

   Als Anfang schon. Behalte eine Rücklage für Notfälle, den Rest kannst du anlegen.

   Translation

   As a start, yes. Keep a reserve for emergencies, and you can invest the rest.

   Und die Rente?

   Translation

   And the state pension?

    Lotte

    Allein wird die kaum reichen. Darum sollte man früh vorsorgen.

    Translation

    On its own it'll hardly be enough. That's why you should plan ahead early.

    Gut, ich mache mir ein Budget und lege fünfzig Euro im Monat in einen Fonds. Wohlhabend werde ich so nicht.

    Translation

    All right, I'll make myself a budget and put fifty euros a month into a fund. I won't get wealthy that way.

    Lotte

    Ein Vermögen nicht, aber eine ruhige Zukunft. Und das ist die beste Geldanlage.

    Translation

    Not a fortune, but a calm future. And that's the best investment.
