Dialog

Ein kurzes Gespräch mit den Wörtern dieses Szenarios. Tippe unter einem Satz auf „Übersetzung“, um zu sehen, was er bedeutet.

   Gleich ist die Hausversammlung. Steht deine Argumentationskette? Du hattest ja ein ganzes Buch über Rhetorik.

   Übersetzung

   The residents' meeting is about to start. Is your chain of reasoning ready? You did have a whole book on rhetoric.

   Otti

   Ja. Nur bei der Körpersprache bin ich unsicher - ich bin eben kein großer Redner.

   Übersetzung

   Yes. I'm just unsure about my body language - I'm simply not a great speaker.

   Lotte

   Dann schau deinem Gegenüber in die Augen. Und ein anschauliches Beispiel hat mehr Wirkung als jede Zahl.

   Übersetzung

   Then look the person you're talking to in the eye. And a vivid example has more impact than any figure.

   Und danach ein Appell an Herz und Verstand: „Wer will schon Beton statt Blumen?“

   And then an appeal to heart and head: "Who wants concrete instead of flowers?"

   Genau, eine rhetorische Frage - ein Stilmittel, das fast immer ins Schwarze trifft. Aber nicht zu oft, sonst wirkt es, als wolltest du manipulieren.

   Übersetzung

   Exactly, a rhetorical question - a device that almost always hits the nail on the head. But not too often, or it'll look as if you wanted to manipulate people.

   Schön und gut. Aber wer soll den Garten bezahlen?

   Übersetzung

   That's all very well. But who's supposed to pay for the garden?

   Gute Frage! Das übernimmt der Gartenverein.

   Übersetzung

   Good question! The garden club is covering that.

   Sie sind ja schlagfertig. Wollen Sie mich etwa überreden?

   Übersetzung

   You're quick with an answer, aren't you? Are you trying to talk me into it?

   Otti

   Überreden nicht - überzeugen. Stellen Sie sich nur vor: Ihr Morgenkaffee zwischen Tomaten statt zwischen Mülltonnen.

   Übersetzung

   Not talk you into it - convince you. Just imagine: your morning coffee among tomatoes instead of among bins.

10. Nachbar

    Hm… das ist allerdings überzeugend. Also gut, ich bin dabei.

    Übersetzung

    Hm… that is convincing, I must say. All right, I'm in.

    Du hast eindringlich, aber ehrlich appelliert. So viel Überzeugungskraft hätte ich dir gar nicht zugetraut!

    Your appeal was compelling but honest. I'd never have thought you had that much persuasive power!

    Ich mir auch nicht. Das Buch behalte ich übrigens, bis die Tomaten reif sind.
