   Kalle

   Toll, ein eigener Kleingarten, Lotte! Aber wo sind denn die Beete?

   Translation

   Great, an allotment of your own, Lotte! But where are the beds?

2. 

   Lotte

   Irgendwo unter dem Unkraut. Das wuchs hier jahrelang ganz allein.

   Translation

   Somewhere under the weeds. They grew here on their own for years.

3. 

   Kalle

   Keine Panik, das kommt alles auf den Kompost.

   Translation

   Don't panic, it's all going on the compost.

4. 

   Lotte

   Ich habe natürlich schon einen Plan: Hier baue ich Tomaten an, dort Möhren und Salat.

   Translation

   Of course I've already got a plan: here I'll grow tomatoes, over there carrots and lettuce.

   Kalle

   Unter dem Apfelbaum ist aber viel Schatten. Da würde ich den Salat pflanzen, die Tomaten lieber in die Sonne.

   Translation

   But there's a lot of shade under the apple tree. I'd plant the lettuce there, and the tomatoes in the sun.

   Lotte

   Gut, dass du das sagst! Und die Samen für die Möhren säe ich direkt in die Erde, oder?

   Translation

   Good thing you say so! And I sow the carrot seeds straight into the soil, right?

   Kalle

   Genau. Danach musst du sie jeden Abend gießen, die Gießkanne steht schon da.

   Translation

   Exactly. After that you have to water them every evening, the watering can is already there.

   Lotte

   Jeden Abend? Ich dachte, Pflanzen wachsen einfach so.

   Translation

   Every evening? I thought plants just grow on their own.

   Kalle

   Fast. Im Juni blühen die Tomaten, und im August kannst du ernten.

   Translation

   Almost. The tomatoes flower in June, and in August you can harvest.

    Lotte

    August, Ernte - steht schon in meinem Kalender! Und wann sind die Tomaten reif?

    Translation

    August, harvest - it's already in my calendar! And when are the tomatoes ripe?

    Kalle

    Wenn sie schön rot sind. Du wirst sehen, du hast einen grünen Daumen.

    Translation

    When they're nice and red. You'll see, you've got green fingers.

12. 

    Lotte

    Bis jetzt habe ich nur grüne Hände vom Unkraut! Los, an die Arbeit!

    Translation

    So far I've only got green hands from the weeds! Come on, let's get to work!
