   Kalle, ist es wahr? Ein beruflicher Wechsel - nach so vielen Jahren?

   Translation

   Kalle, is it true? A change of career - after so many years?

   Kalle

   Ja, ich habe es gewagt! Nach fünfzehn Jahren im Büro mache ich eine Umschulung zum Förster.

   Translation

   Yes, I've taken the plunge! After fifteen years in an office I'm retraining as a forester.

   Otti

   Das ist mutig! Hattest du keine Zweifel?

   Translation

   That's brave! Didn't you have any doubts?

4. 

   Kalle

   Doch, viele. Aber im Büro fand ich meine Arbeit nicht mehr sinnvoll. Ich brauchte einen Neuanfang.

   Translation

   Yes, lots. But in the office I didn't find my work meaningful any more. I needed a fresh start.

   Otti

   Und wie ist der Lehrgang? Bist du der einzige Quereinsteiger?

   Translation

   And what's the course like? Are you the only career changer?

   Kalle

   Nein, neben mir sitzt eine Quereinsteigerin, die früher Köchin war. Eine erfahrene Försterin bildet uns aus.

   Translation

   No, next to me sits a career changer who used to be a cook. An experienced forester is training us.

   Und was lernt ihr? Bäume umarmen?

   Translation

   And what do you learn? Hugging trees?

   Kalle

   Sehr witzig. Ich eigne mir die lateinischen Namen aller Bäume an. Und abends bilde ich mich weiter.

   Translation

   Very funny. I'm learning the Latin names of all the trees. And in the evenings I study further.

   Klingt nach viel Arbeit. Würdest du es wieder wagen?

   Translation

   Sounds like a lot of work. Would you dare to do it again?

    Sofort! Hätte ich es nur früher gemacht. Im Büro kannte niemand meine Fähigkeiten.

    Translation

    Straight away! If only I'd done it sooner. In the office nobody knew what I could do.

    Und wann hast du deinen Abschluss?

    Translation

    And when do you finish your qualification?

    In zwei Jahren. Dann beginnt meine neue Laufbahn - im Wald, wo ich hingehöre.

    Translation

    In two years. Then my new career begins - in the forest, where I belong.
