   Otti, Sie wollten mich sprechen?

   Translation

   Otti, you wanted to speak to me?

   Otti

   Ja, ich hätte gern ein kurzes Gehaltsgespräch. Nach einem Jahr hier mache ich deutlich mehr, als in meinem Vertrag steht.

   Translation

   Yes, I'd like a short salary talk. After a year here I do a lot more than my contract says.

3. Boss

   Das stimmt, und ich erkenne Ihre Leistung an. Ohne Sie wäre das letzte Projekt gescheitert.

   Translation

   That's true, and I appreciate your work. Without you the last project would have failed.

   Otti

   Danke. Deshalb halte ich eine Gehaltserhöhung von zehn Prozent für angemessen. In unserer Branche verdient man durchschnittlich sogar mehr.

   Translation

   Thank you. That's why I think a ten per cent pay rise is fair. On average, people in our industry even earn more.

5. Boss

   Zehn Prozent fordern Sie? Hm … Das ist bei uns nicht üblich. Wie rechtfertigen Sie das?

   Translation

   You're asking for ten per cent? Hmm … That's not usual here. How do you justify it?

   Mit Zahlen: Ich habe dieses Jahr drei neue Kunden gewonnen.

   Translation

   With figures: this year I've won three new customers.

   Ich zögere trotzdem. Mehr als fünf Prozent sind in diesem Jahr kaum drin.

   Translation

   I'm still hesitant. More than five per cent is hardly possible this year.

   Otti

   Darf ich verhandeln? Wie wäre ein Kompromiss: sieben Prozent und ein Bonus am Jahresende?

   Translation

   May I negotiate? How about a compromise: seven per cent and a bonus at the end of the year?

9. Boss

   Sie sind ja selbstbewusst in dieser Verhandlung! Na gut, ich gebe nach: sieben Prozent mehr Gehalt ab Januar.

   Translation

   You're certainly confident in this negotiation! All right, I'll give in: seven per cent more salary from January.

    Otti

    Danke! Das sind brutto etwa 220 Euro mehr. Und netto?

    Translation

    Thank you! That's about 220 euros more before tax. And after tax?

11. Boss

    Etwa 140. Und es ist nicht nur Geld, sondern auch Anerkennung. Nächstes Jahr reden wir über Ihren Aufstieg.

    Translation

    About 140. And it's not just money, it's recognition too. Next year we'll talk about your promotion.
